Couchsurfing Collective in Montreal - Summer 2006
Submitted by Yan on Thu, 2006-08-10 14:00.
This summer, a great Couchsurfing Collective was held in Montreal, Quebec. People came from all over the world to share and participate in the growth of an incredible project. The Collective stayed in an appartment of St-Denis street near of Rosemont : a few blocks from our own registered office! For those who don't know about Couchsurfing, this project is very open, international, and maintained with very low money input (mostly by member donations). The project mainly helps people, usually travelers, meet friendly people abroad and have the chance to enjoy local hospitality and a different experience (for free - with the profile system one can contact people interested into hosting him, all over the world!). They also promote cultural exchanges and international collectives. We had the opportunity to visit the Collective in Montreal a few times, bringing loads of bread to help feed the 15-20 persons permanently working there. The atmosphere was simply awesome, with colorful energy and joyful mood, even though a lot of work was involved. The Collective lived some very intense events this summer. The database server crashed at a critical moment and most of it seemed lost. So, many travelers feared they might have lost one of the most impressive projects friendship had created. But the Collective worked even harder and managed to recover most of the database. This experience strengthened the links between the members and the whole project has had a new start. The mission evolved to an even more humanitarian vision, which rejoices us to the highest point! Here is how it is newly defined : "CouchSurfing seeks to internationally network people and places, create educational exchanges, raise collective consciousness, spread tolerance and facilitate cultural understanding." Incredibly close to The Earth Being's mission. Many of us taught of asking for help / cooperation from the Couchsurfing project, especially for the Contact Center project. We hope we can meet them in the future in order to discuss possibilities on this matter. In the end, we really admire this organization and its incredible success, creating networks and friendship all over the world. Promoting cultures and travel as a mean of learning and caring for the planet. Have a look at their website, it's definitely worth it! And share the good news to your friends and loved ones. »
