Ecological Farm In Costa Rica

Some experiences can totally change our existence by modifying our main purpose. After a very interesting trip to Costa Rica, in which we, Yan and Vickie, volonteered on a subsistence organic farm in the mountains, we decided to tend toward an alternative kind of life, in which we could really apply our philosophical and environnemental beliefs. This projet is actually helping us to be the more genuine and healthy possible in our body and in our environment.

The project was elaborated slowly since our return and is still in a conceptual phase. Nevertheless, we will leave again to Costa Rica next summer, and if everything goes as planned, we'll be land owners in May 2006. The area we are now looking into is the small village of Savegre, in the region of San Isidro de El General (Perez Zeledon), in the province of San Jose. We are searching for a land about 1000m in altitude, on the mountainside, with a possibity of view on the Pacific Ocean, near to the west coast.

As soon as we will arrive, we'd like to build an ecological house. We also want to reduce our economical participation to promote the local exchange of services. We want to grow most of our food in a organic way, by planting fruit trees and gardens, respecting the principles of Permaculture. Finaly, we want to tend towards the ideal of autarky by living as simple as we can, without electrity, taking advantage of the natural water coming from the mountains.

In an another objective related to the colectivity, attainable on the longer run, we want to share our knowledge and be active in the local community, as well as to welcome visitors to introduce them to a simple lifestyle. For that reason, we are very interested in education and the awareness of the young people in countryside communities. We are also very attracted to the idea of linguistic, musical and environmental exchanges with the young people of the area.

As the dream dozes off of our head towards the tapestry of our reality, we will keep you informed of the details of our adventure.
